‘HAVE IT YOUR WAY®’ Extends to Consumers’ Payment Choices as Quick Serve Restaurant Leader Deploys ‘Dual Comm’ Terminals to Support Credit and Debit Payment
Santa Clara, CA - July 21, 2004 - Burger King Corporation is installing Verifone Omni 3750 payment terminals in all company-owned BURGER KING® restaurants across the country in an effort to provide BURGER KING guests with more payment options and speedier service at the point of purchase. The company is also supporting a program that offers the same solution to BURGER KING franchisees systemwide.
Verifone, the world’s leading provider of payment solutions, today announced that Burger King Corporation selected Omni 3750 payment terminals following an extensive review designed to rapidly place electronic payment devices in the hands of franchisees at little or no installation costs. The systems have been rolled out to more than 2,000 company-owned and franchise restaurants in the past four months.
The Verifone terminals accommodate both dial-up and Internet-based communications, allowing franchisees to migrate to faster Internet transactions at their option. The Omni 3750 accommodates a wide range of value-added applications, including gift cards and stored value, which will provide BURGER KING® franchisees with greater options to implement customer loyalty and promotional campaigns.
“Burger King Corporation is continuing to build on its momentum in the marketplace by innovating at the cash register just as it does with its menu options,” said Jesse Adams, Verifone executive vice president of North American sales. “Verifone is helping BURGER KING® restaurants deliver even faster service and flexible payment options to its guests using the fastest, most dependable payment solutions in the electronic payments industry.”
According to a consumer survey completed by First Data in 2002, 63 percent of respondents said they would frequent a quick service restaurant (QSR) that accepts credit/debit card payments more often than a traditional cash-only QSR, and 36 percent said they would spend more money if debit and/or credit card payment options were available.
One prevalent deciding factor in Burger King Corporation’s decision to deploy Omni 3750 terminals was the need to process transactions via both traditional dial-up and via Internet Protocol (IP). IP delivers four-second transaction speeds and supports “always-on” connectivity, eliminating the time-consuming dial-up process. The high-speed processing ability of Verifone’s Omni 3750 is a huge advantage for merchants, particularly in the quick service restaurant industry, where fast and efficient customer service delivers more revenue. The Omni 3750, with its dual communications module, supports both dial-up and IP/Ethernet based transactions. IP/Ethernet-enabled point-of-sale solutions also provide infrastructure cost savings, reducing the need for additional phone lines and other related costs.
Other factors that were important in Burger King Corporation’s decision to deploy Verifone Omni 3750 terminals include:
- The Omni 3750’s multi-application capabilities allow value added applications to be installed easily in the future
- The terminal’s SoftPay software enables customized solutions to be built into the local environment
- The terminal’s ease of integration with potential upgrades in the future, such as peripheral installations or drive-thru solutions.
