Chicago taxis will be required to use one of two hailing apps by February

The city of Chicago has been pushing toward a universal taxi hailing app since at least 2014, and Mayor Rahm Emanuel made campaign promises to bring such an app to the city. Now, his administration has selected two companies to provide the app, with a planned launch date of February 1. On that date, all of Chicago’s medallion taxi drivers will be required use apps provided by Arro or Verifone (NASDAQ: PAY), the Chicago Sun-Times reported, making Chicago perhaps the first American city with such a system.
